IN FOCUS

Russell S. has truly blossomed since joining the Light of Hope (LOH) program! His newfound enthusiasm shines through as he actively participates in all activities, embracing every opportunity to learn. Each day, Russell greets fellow participants and staff with a warm smile, bringing joy and positivity to everyone around him. It's a delight to witness his transformation and eagerness for new adventures!
LIGHT OF HOPE

Here at Light of Hope, we strive to be a beacon of peace, hope, and joy for all. We are dedicated to uplifting our participants, empowering our staff, and nurturing our community. Together, we create an environment where positivity flourishes, and everyone feels valued inspired. Join us in spreading light and transforming lives!

"Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are." Hafsat Abiola

PEACE IN THE WOODS OF AUTUMN

"Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible. We all wish for world peace, but world peace will never be achieved unless we first establish peace within our own minds." Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

In our bustling community, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the chaos of daily life. Finding a serene spot in the woods or a quiet park can provide the perfect escape to relax and recharge. Immersing ourselves in nature allows our minds to quiet down, helping us to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. This season, I encourage everyone to seek peace and freedom of mind, fostering a sense of love for humanity, nature, and life itself.
TEAM WORK

Light of Hope Community Integration Program fosters a collaborative environment where participants work together as a cohesive team. By harnessing each individual's strengths, our program always encourages open communication, bondedness, and shared responsibilities to achieve common goals. Together, they tackle challenges and celebrate successes, creating a supportive community that empowers everyone involved. This teamwork not only enhances productivity but also builds lasting relationships among participants.
"Happiness is always on the other side of being teachable." Shannon L. Alder
A SMILE SPEAKS VOLUMNS

How beautiful is the face that wears a smile! Expressions speak loud and clear of the heart and mind of an individual. When one is truly at peace, hearts filled with joy, it is transfered to the face in the form of a smile.

We, here at LOH, are so pleased to see our participants in a state of happiness. It is our desire that each individual embrace, with all of their heart, the love we share by the works we do. May we see our program filled with happy faces!

DREAM BIG!
At Light of Hope, we believe in the power of dreams and leadership. Participants like Katie S. (pictured above) inspire us to dream big, and we create exciting activities that allow them to explore their aspirations Whether it's a journey to the stars at the California Science Museum or a thrilling expedition to the Natural History Museum for dinosaur enthusiasts, we are dedicated to nurturing these dreams and keeping the spirit of exploration alive!
TEACHABLE MOMENTS

LOH love adding many fun activities to our daily schedules, but we design those activities to create teachable moments for our participants.

"Learning is a process where knowledge is presented to us, then shaped through understanding, discussion and reflection."

"Like water which can clearly mirror the sky and the trees only so long as its surface is undisturbed, the mind can only reflect the true image of the self when it is tranquil and wholly relaxed."

WHAT'S HAPPENED
Join us each month as we carefully curate meaningful experiences designed to connect, inspire, and support our community. From local outings to exciting trips, every adventure embodies our mission to foster joy, learning, and a genuine sense of belonging. We invite you to be a part of these enriching moments that bring us closer together.
Channel Island Maritime Musuem
The participants of Light of Hope recently enjoyed an enriching field trip to the Channel Islands Maritime Museum. They explored fascinating exhibits that showcased maritime arts and culture, deepening their understanding of this important aspect of history. Additionally, they learned about the ecology of the ocean, gaining valuable insights into marine life and conservation. It was a memorable experience that combined education with exploration.

ACTIVITIES TO STIMULATE THE MIND
THIS MONTH IN OCTOBER

The mission for Breast Cancer Awareness month is to "Provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education, and support services."
OCTOBER 6TH

On October 6th, the spotlight shines on cerebral palsy and those living with the disorder. It is also a time to foster understanding and encourage better support and services.

Columbus Day, October 13th, celebrates the landing of Christopher Columbus in America in October 1492, and it shares the same day set aside to honor Native Americans and their bravery in fighting to preserve their culture, language, traditions, and land.
Both, Native Americans, and Christopher Columbus and his crew faced great risks in their pursuits of preserving their way of life and in building better lives.

Indigenous Peoples' Day is celebrated on the same day as Columbus Day. It celebrates Native American cultures, histories, and presence.
HALLOWEEN - OCT. 31st

You may or may not believe in ghosts goblins, and spooky nights, but most of us believe in good, clean fun with family and friends, and that is what celebrating Halloween can be, so put on your favorite character costume, add a little music and delightful treats, laugh, dance and have a great evening!
THE AUTHOR'S NEST
"The Haunted Palace" by Edgar Allen Poe

Not going out or joining a party for Halloween? "The Haunted Palace" is a dramatic poem, and not a long read, to get in the Halloween mood.
