IN FOCUS
JACOB Q.
Jacob "Jake" is a very sociable participant. He never misses an opportunity to greet the staff and his peers with a big hello and a warm smile.

Jake LOVES to read! He brings a book or two with him when he comes to program. He is also excited about reading when he gets to the reading program at the library. The books he love most are the books from "I Know an Old Lady" series.

Jake's favorite program activity is Music Expression, and his favorite song is "Brick House!" Whenever it plays, he will grab KK's (his best friend) hand and out on the dance floor they go.

As of date, Jake's favorite field trip was going to Ventura Harbor. Surely there will be more experiences for Jake to enjoy with The Light of Hope Program.
WHAT'S HAPPENED
THE SANTA BARBARA ZOO
The Light of Hope Program participants experienced an adventure to The Santa Barbara Zoo where had the opportunity to connect with many species of animals. The gorilla and giraffe were the favorites! There was also a train ride that took some of a tour of the zoo. This was a very exciting excursion for everyone!
BOATING AT VENTURA HARBOR!
Our Day Out On The Boats!
In June we had the pleasure of visiting the Ventura Harbor for a boating trip! Everyone had a blast soaking in the sea breeze and enjoying the marine wildlife. Some participants chose to enjoy an energetic paddle boat ride while others opted for a more relaxing cruse in the motor boats or an educational time at the Channel Islands Visitor Center. The gift shop and lunch added the finishing touch to a perfect day.
UPCOMING EVENTS
July 4th - Independence Day!
Parent Liberty and freedom are made possible only within the boundary of justice and equality. Those who
enjoy liberty must take responsibility for their actions or liberty will not be preserved. In turn, liberty
and freedom give birth to independence because it is impossible to be independent without the
free choice to act and do. Liberty, freedom, and independence are often interchangeable terms and
yet they are unique principles which work together to secure individual and national happiness.
Parent Appreciation Day, Friday July 26th
Parents are gifts from God and deserve to be appreciated for their unconditional love, support, and
guidance. Parenting is never an easy task because it involves ongoing physical, emotional, and
moral support and personal sacrifice. Parents play a central role in their children’s lives and though
their work may often seem to go unnoticed they mold and shape the character of their children and
ultimately the character of this great country. We at The Naslund & Naslund Light of Hope program
are pleased to show our appreciation to the wonderful parents of the participants we serve.
A Parents' Appreciation Luncheon will be held on Friday, July 26th. RSVP is required.
WHAT'S TO COME!
SUMMER IS HERE! LET'S GO FISHING!
The Light of Hope program participants are in for a real treat this month; we're going fishing at the Malibu Pier! Did you know that fishing boosts your immune system while increasing your heart rate boosting cardiovascular fitness. But besides the health benefits this relaxing activity is just plain fun! We'll have fishing rods in hand ready for everyone to have a great day. So lets go fishing!
The Freedom to Serve One another!

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH
INSPIRATION
Freedom To Do What Is Right.
Every choice in life is a gift that carries both freedom and responsibility. Today we live in a country of privilege but those privileges, while given freely to us, came at a great cost to our forefathers. We can not expect to hold onto freedom if we abuse it. Yes, the freedom of choice to do good or evil is allotted to every person but only those who choose to use liberty for good are truly free. Sacrifice, honour and nobility are the foundation of liberty and the only platform on which we prosper and grow.
